Facial Tissue (Kleenex) Sculptures!? Why sculpt facial tissue?
Renowned sea life artist, Jeremy Reed says: “Why not?”
Jeremy is the only artist in the world to sculpt facial tissue in this manner, having created his own unique medium! It started off almost as a joke. He had created what he thought was a one time sculpture out of tissue. Yet, at the gallery it sold right away and art collectors kept asking what his next sculpture would be. So started a new adventure in his art journey!
Each sculpture starts with a wood base and a wire for support. Then facial tissue is soaked in a hardening agent he specially mixed up for the tissue. Then the true art begins. Jeremy meticulously sculpts the Kleenex around the wire armature layer by layer. He continues to mold and layer, sculpting as he goes. As the tissue hardens, additional layers are added until the final shape is realized. The final sculpture hardens to stand the test of time. Then it is carefully painted and detailed.
Having pioneered the art of Facial Tissue (Kleenex) Sculptures, Jeremy feels it allows him, in ways, to go beyond what he could do in clay or even papier-mâché. As a result, Jeremy has discovered ways of taking common facial tissue to create stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces of art. It does take a lot of patience perfecting each piece, but the result is well worth it! They are extremely detailed, extremely life-like and incredibly stunning! See why they have caught the eye of collectors around the world!
